Wine rating Château Pesquié Ventoux
What does a wine rating really mean? Let’s decode the scores behind our latest awards
In the wine world, wine ratings have become essential guides—for wine lovers, collectors, and professionals alike. Behind each number is a careful, expert tasting and evaluation.
At Château Pesquié, we’re proud to share the outstanding scores recently given to several of our cuvées by two of the most respected names in wine journalism: Wine Enthusiast and Jeb Dunnuck.
But first: what exactly is a wine rating, and why does it matter?
What is a wine rating?
A wine rating is a numerical score given by a wine critic or publication following a professional tasting. The score reflects the wine’s quality, balance, typicity, and aging potential.
👉 The most widely used scoring systems include:
-
The 100-point scale, common in the US (Robert Parker, Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Enthusiast, etc.)
-
The 20-point scale, traditionally used in France
-
Star ratings, sometimes seen in consumer-focused guides
A score of 90/100 or above is generally considered excellent, while ratings above 94-95/100 indicate a truly outstanding wine.
